Schedule: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) Shift: Monday - Friday, Days
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice nurse (APN), who demonstrates advanced cognitive and psychomotor capabilities in the assessment, treatment and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems. The CNS functions autonomously and in collaboration with other healthcare providers as a practitioner, educator, consultant, clinical leader and researcher. The CNS relies on his / her advanced education and applies advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret and make inferences from facts and circumstances that vary from case to case. The CNS operates independently and works directly with clinical department leaders on the nursing units where there is no direct supervision. The work of a CNS is intellectual in nature and is reflective of their advanced, specialized academic training and education. The consistent exercise of a high degree of discretion and independent judgment is required.
The CNS is primarily responsible for: development, execution, evaluation and ongoing supervision of individual and project action plans in order to improve patient care outcomes; create policies and procedures; conduct independent assessment of patients and their current treatment plans; collaborate on plan of care with physicians, nursing leadership and clinical staff; assess education/training needs and develop and present programs specially-tailored to meet the needs of a multidisciplinary clinical staff; analyze complex clinical data and recommend instructional programs to close the gap in institutional clinical knowledge; independently plan, organize and execute special projects and complete projects assigned by CNO or designee; exercise authority and/or may effectively recommend personnel actions, such as hiring, transfers, corrective action, and participating in job performance evaluations.

Qualifications
Educations: Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing. Masters Degree in Nursing required.
License/Certifications: Current California RN License. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider CourseCertification. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support ProviderCourse. CA Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification.
Experience: Three to five years of Acute Care neonatalexperience with a solid grasp of hemodynamics required.
Three years prior work experience as a ClinicalNurse Specialist preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge: Analytical skills necessary in order to handlenon-routine, complex administrative details. Computer literate with in-depth knowledge,experience to operate word processing, data bases, graphics, and spreadsheetsin order to generate reports.Ability tolearn and operate Kronos, Meditech, Excel, Word and patient care managementsystems. Maintains current knowledge and competency inareas of specialization.
