A Director of Benefits:
Oversees the design, development, updating and maintenance of benefit plans, programs, guidelines, and procedures, such as health, dental, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance and/or 401(k) plans. Determines appropriate plan designs and revisions to ensure conformance to desired level of competitiveness in the marketplace and that financial/strategic objectives are met. Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues; implements process, product or service improvements and safeguards. Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. Contributes to the development of functional strategy.
Essential Functions:
Oversees design, development and administration of health, welfare, and/or retirement plans for employees.
Full staff management responsibility, recruits, directs and coaches staff in completion of Benefits objectives, including plan design, day-to-day administration, and open enrollment process.
Identifies opportunities and consults with leadership to develop and implement benefit plans to meet specific long and short-term objectives.
Oversees request for proposal (RFP) process to ensure potential vendors and products are compliant with federal and state regulations, and potential changes/additions/omissions offer maximum quality and value to both the company and employee.
Directs self audits and government audits for compliance with relevant regulations.
Directs the management of third-party sources/vendors responsible for benefit services and benefit plans, including costing and compliance.
Collaborates with HRIS and external vendors to ensure current and future system configuration appropriately manages benefit information.
Develops and oversees departmental and individual plan budgets for health, welfare, and retirement plans.
Develops and maintains internal metrics to gauge and measure the performance of plans and processes
Plans and executes conversion/integration of benefits for acquired companies
Collaborates in the development and administration of an informative and engaging total rewards statement type of program with related employee communications and marketing efforts.
Projects and monitors plan performance/efficiency/costs, and works with Finance to ensure that appropriate budget estimates and accruals are in place so as to avoid financial surprises.
Education | Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
Master's degree preferred
CEBS preferred
10 years Benefits experience, including 5+ years at the management level
Healthcare industry experience preferred
Experience with a large, diverse and geographically diverse employee population.
Comprehensive knowledge of nationwide benefit plan design, tax and benefits laws and regulations, as well as rulings and other relevant agency authority
Proven knowledge of benefit implementation, conversion, revision and financial implications
Multi-task oriented and excellent Negotiation skills
Ability to translate strategies to departmental objectives and activities
Knowledge of web based benefit programs
Some travel required
