Summary: Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, primary function is to provide diagnostic, preventive and corrective dental services at a high level of quality and efficacy. Additional functions will include and not be limited to: administrative tasks related to patient care including documentation of all clinical and electronic contact with patients in the electronic dental record while insuring compliance with OSHA and HIPAA standards. Dentist is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Dental Center and the Funds.Essential Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures, as well as provide preventive and corrective services
- Examines teeth, the periodontium and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, and other diagnostic equipment to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments
- Analyze and evaluate dental needs to determine changes and trends in patterns of dental disease
- Formulates and presents periodontal, restorative and maintenance treatment plans and effectively presents these plans for patients
- Administer anesthetics for pain control
- Prescribes medications as needed to control disease and alleviate pain
- Performs basic restorative procedures including composite and amalgam fillings
- Design, prepare, and fit prosthodontic appliances such as crowns as well as fixed and removable dentures
- Perform simple and surgical tooth extractions
- Root Canal Therapy on anterior, pre-molar and selected molar teeth
- Performs at or above published productivity and quality standards
- In compliance with OSHA safety standards, follows universal precautions in order to protect themselves and their patients from unprotected exposure to infectious diseases and other harmful agents
- Appropriate, accurate and timely communication in the electronic dental record to all sub-departments involved in patient’s care, including Registration Clerks, Administrative Staff, Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienists, Staff Dentists and Supervisors
- Participate in any/all Dental Center improvements geared towards operational excellence.

Qualifications: Current NYS Dental License, Current DEA Registration Certificate
Requirements: Documentation of current HBV vaccination status. Current Professional Liability Insurance with 1M/3M coverage. The candidate must not have any current or pending disciplinary actions with the NYS Office of Professionals. Detail oriented, ability to prioritize workload, ability to effectively communicate simple and complex health issues in a caring and professional manner, strong and consistent commitment to improving the oral health of the patient, strong communication and interpersonal skills, team player, outstanding work ethic and employment record (including attendance and punctuality). Computer skills must include Word, Excel and ability to provide accurate and timely documentation in an electronic dental record.
Language Skills: Speak, read, write, and understand English
Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability and technical expertise, to analyze, assess, recommend and implement solutions to complex dental issues or problems with a minimum of supervisory intervention. Must be able to appropriately set goals, objectives, and priorities based upon the organizational mission, vision, and values within his/her scope of services, and that of his/her department or service component.
