Responsibilities The Endoscopy Technician I on Alfred 6 at Saint Marys Hosptial is responsible for performing essential tasks to support the areas performing Gastroenterology (GI) endoscopy. The Tech is responsible for the safe handling and disinfection of the high-tech instruments used in GI endoscopy and plays a critical role in providing safe patient care.
The Endoscopy Technician I will perform other tasks as delegated by the supervisor, which may include patient care, supply inventory management and sterilization of procedural instruments.
These responsibilities require attention to detail and the ability to follow written instructions. The Tech is an integral member of the health care team.
The Endoscopy Technician I role is the first in a series of two endoscopy technician roles. After one year of Endoscopy Technician I experience, technicians will be eligible to apply for the Endoscopy Technician II role which includes actively participating in procedures. One year of experience also qualifies employees to apply to the Mayo Clinic Career Investment Program, where Mayo pays tuition for qualifying degree and certificate programs.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Additional Qualifications:
Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting. Experience performing multiple tasks within a work shift. Works flexible hours to meet the demands of the work unit. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Excellent communication skills.
Prior knowledge of electronic applications, surgical or central service functions, high level disinfection, and GI endoscopy equipment and procedures is preferred but not required. Training will be provided as needed.
License or Certification:
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 60 days of hire. Maintains BCLS competency.
