Job Duties:Contractors echocardiography technician will be able to perform all aspects of cardiac ultrasonography in the medical center, and is responsible to the Director of echocardiography cardiology section for the collection, processing and analysis of echocardiography data. This includes the performance of all outpatient emergency/routine, stress/contrast trans-thoracic echocardiograms, assist during invasive trans-esophageal echocardiograms and the total operation of the Cardiac Echo Laboratory without direct physician supervision.Interpret preliminary results of echocardiograms and communicating abnormal results that require urgent or emergent physician intervention to the responsible cardiologist.Technician must have a thorough knowledge & understanding of normal/abnormal cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology including ability to analyze echocardiograms to detect abnormalities of LV wall motion and overall cardiac function, prosthetic valve function, presence of cardiac anomalies, awareness of findings relative to cardiothoracic surgical repairs and facility with pressure gradients/valve area calculations.Technician will schedule & instruct patients, generate all clinical scans, prepare preliminary echo reports, revise all final reports in accordance with the interpretation of the responsible cardiologist. This report will be a permanent part of the patient's medical record. Technician will relay patient information to physicians, file reports and videotapes, sterilize trans-esophageal probes, schedules and monitor need and report for equipment preventive maintenance.Maintain adequate supplies & equipment for the Echocardiography Laboratory.Report any administrative and technical problems that arise to the Cardiologist with sufficient time to avoid adverse consequences or avoidable expenses.Recognize and take action when an emergency medical code must be called or the MOD physician must be notified.Be available on a daily basis for emergency urgent care procedures.Be familiar with the current standard echocardiography equipment and techniques. (Current equipment in use at VA Connecticut Healthcare System: Philips Epiq & Philips IE33 with 2-D and 3-D color Doppler, tissue Doppler and strain package.)Demonstrate ability to access VA cardiology echocardiography database system so that preliminary and final reports can be entered, generated and updated on a routine basis.Must be present at the VA when required and actually performing the work or the contract cost will be decreased accordingly during the billing cycle. The Contractor shall be paid only for the work performed.
